Most people go on safari to Tanzania eager to spot the big five but we know there are a lot of birds enthusiasts and that's fair enough as Tanzania is one of Africa’s best birding destinations.
Tanzania is home to over 1,000 species - 800 are resident, nearly 200 are regular migrants and 22 species are endemic, meaning of course they are unique to Tanzania.
Birdlife in Tanzania is fabulous year-round, but November to April is a special period as migratory birds from Europe and northern Africa are there. What's more, during these months, many resident birds are nesting and in breeding plumage, which means "extra colours", sophisticated feathers.
All the safari areas offer good birding opportunities, and specials can be found pretty much everywhere you go.
